Natural Elements

Inspired by the intricate markings of insects, butterflies, animals, birds and flowers, I add details with colors and textures. This style I call split realism. I  juxtapose the subject matter of the natural element with a great amount of detail, and contrast it with the abstract background filled with the different colors and marks that cover the work.

Most of the work are from my own photographs, many from the Butterfly Rainforest at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville and from my own garden.

I am always looking for inspiration each time I am outside. The world is filled with such a diverse collection of animals, insects, birds and flowers, I am overwhelmed at it’s diversity and elegance.

Know what you call a group of butterflies? A kaleidoscope!
